When you call 911, explain that you are experiencing a life threatening mental health emergency and dispatchers will most often send first responders that are trained in helping individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.
Even though you may not feel that you are a risk to others or your own safety you may still be eager for some help and support. 988 is a new Suidicide and Crisis Lifeline that is specifically designed for individuals struggling with a mental health crisis for which they need some extra support. This number can be reached through calling or texting 988 and 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Individuals needing support can access it as can family members that are concerned for their loved ones.
