Zehra Ansari is a Licensed Psychologist in the state of Minnesota and a
certified School Psychologist in the states of Minnesota and Illinois. She holds two Master's degrees in Psychology and two Bachelor's degrees in related fields. Her experience in mental health is very broad including being a daycare teacher, a juvenile probation officer and a custody/visitation mediator and evaluator. Zehra has worked in private practice for over 30 years and as a school psychologist simultaneously, in Minnesota. She has worked with all ages and families of varied ethnicities and cultures. She knows how hard it is to take that first step toward therapy, and values every client that comes her way, however big or small the problem may be. Her aim is to help her clients navigate through traumatic life situations with dignity, resulting in healing and the realization of their inherent competence to solve problems and thrive. Zehra has extensive experience providing services to multicultural couples, extended families and other family patterns unique to the immigrant experience. Zehra is trained and competent in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Dialectic Behavior Therapy ( DBT). She is trained in the treatment of PTSD and has completed EMDR and Anchored Relational Therapy (formerly known as Air Network). At present, Zehra offers a Brief Therapy option, for 8 to 12 weeks for individuals interested in improving their overall quality of life by becoming more effective at home and/or the workplace. Among other things, Brief Therapy includes assertiveness skills, emotional regulation, stress management and effective communication. In addition to working with individuals through Brief Therapy, Zehra also provides couples and co- parenting therapy. Her clientele is diverse, including Muslims, immigrants to the United States from various parts of the world and US born minorities. Zehra speaks English, Urdu and Hindi and is comfortable utilizing professional interpreters for other languages. In 2002, Zehra authored a chapter on Islamic Psychology in a text book, “Religious Theories of Personality and Psychotherapy” Editor: R. Paul Olson, M Div, PhD; Haworth Press. Zehra immigrated to the United States from Hyderabad, India and raised her own family in Minnesota. Her knowledge, views and skills are based both on her personal and professional experience. |
